The ECRI (European Commission against Racism and Intolerance) published its annual report
The document, which was presented to the Council of Europe at the end of February, draws the attention of European states to the climate of hatred and too many episodes of racism that are multiplying everywhere on our continent.
“Europe is facing a terrible reality: crimes generated by anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim hatred and other forms of racial hatred are multiplying at an alarming rate.” said Ms Maria Daniella Marouda, Chair of ECRI. “Such heinous acts are often stirred up by poisonous words and conspiracy theories spread on social media and the internet.”
States are called to do more to implement ECRI’s recommendations and to prevent and combat racism and intolerance, at national level and through Council of Europe intergovernmental work.
